Trump Wildly U-Turns on His Threats Against Elon Musk: I Want Him to ‘THRIVE’

Weeks after President Donald Trump threatened Elon Musk’s government contracts, the commander-in-chief has made a 180 and is now insisting that he wants the Tesla chief to “THRIVE.”

In a post to his Truth Social platform on Thurday, the president insisted that Musk’s “large scale subsidies” are safe.

“Everyone is stating that I will destroy Elon’s companies by taking away some, if not all, of the large scale subsidies he receives from the U.S. Government,” Trump wrote. “This is not so! I want Elon, and all businesses within our Country, to THRIVE, in fact, THRIVE like never before! The better they do, the better the USA does, and that’s good for all of us. We are setting records every day, and I want to keep it that way!”

But Trump was singing a very different tune just one month ago.

“The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts,” Trump wrote in a June 5 Truth Social post. “I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!”

Then on July 1, Trump made an even more explicit threat — warning that he might turn the DOGE monster on its creator.

“Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa,” Trump wrote. “No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!”

And according to reports, it wasn’t just talk. On July 19, The Wall Street Journal reported Trump aides took a hard look at actually terminating the government contracts of Musk’s SpaceX — but ultimately found they were too vital to get rid of.
