Vermont Democrat Says Pam Bondi Did a ‘Good Job,’ Brushes Off Concerns Will Do Trump’s Bidding
Senator Peter Welch (D-VT) said that Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Justice, Pam Bondi, did a “good job” at Wednesday’s confirmation hearings.
Welch made the comments while speaking to CNN Capitol Hill correspondent Manu Raju. When asked about concerns that Bondi would do Trump’s bidding, Welch dismissed these claims adding that Trump needs to “feel comfortable” with his attorney general.
“Peter Welch, Dem on Senate Judiciary, sounding positive about Pam Bondi. Said she did a ‘good job,’ Raju told his followers on X.

Raju added, “He says about other Dem concerns about her independence from Trump: ‘The president is always going to have somebody that he or she feels comfortable with,’ Welch told me.”
However, despite the praises of Trump’s nominee on her first day of hearings, Welch did express concern that the president-elect would try to target his political opponents.
“My concern is the threats Donald Trump has made about going after his political opponents,” Welch told Raju. Bondi was asked repeatedly by other Senators on the panel if she would carry out Trump’s threats to go after people like Jack Smith and Liz Cheney.
Bondi told the Senators she would assess the facts of all cases before any charges are filed, based on an independent investigation.
Other Trump nominees, such as Kash Patel, have previously vowed to go after members of the DOJ who prosecuted Trump during his criminal trials as well as members of the January 6th committee.
