WATCH: Prospective Juror in Parkland Shooting Trial Explains She Can’t Do Jury Duty Because She Needs to See Her Sugar Daddy
Some people will make whatever excuse they can to get out of jury duty.
A prospective juror in the sentencing phase of Nikolas Cruz, who shot and killed 17 people and wounded 17 others at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parland, Fla., in February 2018, said on Monday that she can’t serve on the jury because she needs to spend time with her “sugar daddy.”
During jury selection, the prospective juror, identified as “Miss Bristol,” according to Fox News, said she would be unavailable on July 4 (a federal holiday and when courts would be closed anyway), July 7, and July 18.
“I need to figure out something. I have my sugar daddy that I see every day,” she said.
“I’m sorry?” Broward Circuit Court Judge Elizabeth Scherer said.
“My sugar daddy,” said Bristol.
“Okay, I’m not exactly sure what you’re talking about,” said Scherer.
“Well, I’m married and I have my sugar daddy,” said Bristol.
“Okay,” said Scherer, appearing puzzled.
“I see him every day,” said Bristol.
“Alright,” replied Scherer.
The excuse worked as the woman was excused, reported Fox News. Now off jury duty, she can get spoiled by her sugar daddy with shopping, food and more.
Cruz pleaded guilty in October to all charges stemming from the shooting. The jury will decide whether he should face either life in prison without parole or the death penalty.
