WATCH: Startling Videos Show Nepal Finance Minister Chased in the Streets, Stripped, and Beaten
A man identified as Nepal’s finance minister was stripped of his clothes and forced into a river by protesters in shocking footage out of the country that’s been posted to social media.
Multiple videos posted to social media showed Bishnu Prasad Paudel being chased by protesters in the street and beaten. Footage posted by News18 showed the finance minister being chased by a mob in the street.
Protests have rocked Nepal, leaving numerous buildings charred as demonstrators have taken to the streets to protest widespread corruption, poor economic opportunities, and a recent social media ban, according to CNN.
More video of the man identified as Prasad Paudel showed him being stripped of his clothes and chased into a river. In the video, shared by The Sun and others, Prasad Paudel is also wearing a helmet.
A crowd can be seen cheering on the chase.
Nepal’s social media ban included Facebook, X, and YouTube and faced immediate backlash.
Cops have also taken to the streets, using water cannons and rubber bullets to stop protesters who have focused their attention mainly around the parliament building in Kathmandu.
Nepal’s prime minister, Khadga Prasad Oli, has already resigned from office amid the protests, which have led to more than 20 deaths. A curfew has been established in Kathmandu and other cities.
“In view of the adverse situation in the country, I have resigned effective today to facilitate the solution to the problem and to help resolve it politically in accordance with the constitution,” the former prime minister said, according to Reuters.
