Barack and Michelle Obama Finally Address Divorce Rumors as He Appears on Her Podcast for First Time: ‘She Took Me Back!’
Former President Barack Obama and wife Michelle Obama got personal as he appeared on her IMO podcast for the first time, starting with the divorce chatter that has lit up the right-leaning rumor mill.
In an episode that dropped Wednesday, Michelle Obama and brother Craig Robinson welcomed the former president, and it didn’t take long to get to the “elephant in the room.”
“Wait, you guys like each other?” Robinson said to Barack Obama as he came out and embraced his wife.
“Oh, yeah, really, huh?” said the former first lady. “The rumor mill…”
“She took me back!” the 44th president joked.
Moments later, Michelle Obama tried to put the divorce rumors to rest once and for all, saying: “There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I thought about quittin’ on my man. And we’ve had some really hard times. We had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures. And I have become a better person because of the man I’m married to.”
“OK, don’t make me cry now, right at the beginning of the show,” the former president said.
Rumors of a schism in the Obamas’ union have been floated for months.
In January, Meghan McCain told Puck’s Tara Palmeri on the Citizen McCain podcast that “very serious journalists” had informed her the Obamas were heading for Splitsville.
“Oh yeah! I mean, I’ve certainly heard it for awhile,” Palmeri added.

CRAIG ROBINSON: Wait, you guys like each other?
MICHELLE OBAMA: Oh yeah, really, huh? The rumor mill … It’s my husband, ya’ll!
BARACK OBAMA: She took me back!
MICHELLE OBAMA: Now don’t start…
BARACK OBAMA: It was touch-and-go for a while!
ROBINSON: It’s so nice to have you both in the same room together.
MICHELLE OBAMA: I know. Because when we aren’t, folks think we’re divorced.
ROBINSON: Let me tell you, first of all, see, I’m in Wichita, Kansas, for Austin’s tournament. And you know, this
podcast has made me quite popular.BARACK OBAMA: You’re big time.
MICHELLE: Famous.
ROBINSON” And people come up to me all the time. This woman came up to me and she was so nice. She’s like, ‘Can I have a picture?’ Yeah, yeah, yeah. And you know how you get the side hug, and she’s like, ‘What did he do?’
BARACK OBAMA: And you knew she was gonna say what’d he do? It wasn’t like, ‘What happened to him? It was like, ‘How’d he mess up?’
ROBINSON: And I said, well what makes you think HE messed up? Why couldn’t it have been her?
MICHELLE OBAMA: Well, why didn’t you just say no one messed up?
ROBINSON: Well, I wanted to keep this conversation going so that I could tell you about it.
BARACK OBAMA: Oh Lord.
ROBINSON: And she was like, ‘He did something, didn’t he? I was like, ‘Don’t worry, everything’s fine.’ Let me tell you, she was so happy you woulda thought I gave her a Christmas gift.
BARACK OBAMA: These are the kinds of things that I just miss. Right? So I don’t even know this stuff’s is going
on. And then somebody will mention it to me and I’m all like, “What’re you talking about?”MICHELLE OBAMA: There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I thought about quittin’ on my man. And we’ve had some really hard times. We had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures. And I have become a better person because of the man I’m married to.
BARACK OBAMA: OK, don’t make me cry now, right at the beginning of the show.
ROBINSON: Aww, isn’t that sweet?
BARACK OBAMA: Don’t let me start tearing up now.
ROBINSON: And welcome to IMO.
MICHELLE OBAMA: Welcome to IMO, get you all teared up. See, but this is why I can’t talk — see, you can take the hard stuff, but when I start talking about the sweet stuff, you’re like “Stop, no. I can’t do it.”
BARACK OBAMA: I love it, I’m enjoying it.
