‘Blacks Don’t Buy This Sh*t!’ Carville Warns Progressives Risk Blowing Up Democrats’ Bond With ‘Most Loyal’ Voters
Veteran political strategist James Carville warned Democrats that progressive candidates could jeopardize the party’s chances with Black voters.
Carville joined Donny Deutsch on the On Brand podcast on Friday where he trashed democratic socialists and progressive Democrats. Both he and Deutsch agreed that Black voters do not support progressive and far left candidates.
Carville said he believes Democrats will have a “stunningly good” nominee for 2028, but he warned that the party needs to be aware that they could lose a loyal group of voters if they drift too far left.
“I’m pretty sure we’re going to have a stunningly good nominee, I really do,” he said.
“As long as they don’t drift too far left,” Deutsch said, theorizing later that it’s only “rich, snotty kids” supporting progressives.
“They’re not going to do that. Some will, but the political market is like, hey, I got a niche in the left of center lane — and by the way, the Blacks don’t buy this sh*t,” Carville said.
“No, they’re not voting for any of the DSA [Democratic Socialists of America] candidates, and neither are the Latinos,” Deutsch responded.
Carville argued:
Black folks, listen to me very carefully, are the most loyal part of the entire Democratic coalition. If you disrespect them, they know it. And the Democratic Party can never show any distance between itself and Black voters and if it gets to the point that the progressives want to disrespect people, they’re gonna understand that and you’re going to lose a constituency that has stuck with you for the last 70 years.
According to a Washington Post/Ipsos poll released last month, “Black Americans are more likely than White and Hispanic Americans to be open to a democratic socialist candidate.” The survey also found that, when just looking at Democratic voters, however, that’s reversed; 42% of White Democrats like when candidates identify as democratic socialists, compared to 22% of Black Democrats.
Carville has long been a vocal critic of progressives and “woke” Democrats. He recently threatened to ditch the Democratic Party over candidates embracing far-left streamer Hasan Piker, who has a history of controversial comments, including saying America “deserved” the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Piker has campaigned with Democrats like Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan.
“I am not going to be in the same party with Hasan Piker, I can tell you that right now,” Carville told Fox News. “If he becomes a force in a Democratic Party, I’m out of here. I have no intention of ever being in the political party with that guy.”
