Eric Trump Insists Dad’s 2020 Election Loss Was ‘Greatest Thing That Ever Happened’ to Republicans

Eric Trump told Adam Carolla that 2020 was the “greatest thing that ever happened” to the Republican Party despite his father, President Donald Trump, losing the election that year to former President Joe Biden.

Eric Trump joined Carolla on The Adam Carolla Show on Tuesday to promote his New York Times best-selling book Under Siege. Carolla wrapped up the interview by asking for the president’s son’s take on the future of the Republican Party after 2028.

Carolla noted that he’s received some light pushback lately when he’s suggested Vice President JD Vance is best to take up the MAGA banner after Trump. The comedian and podcaster also praised Eric Trump as “articulate” and a potential “sharp and fast” politician.

“Well, Adam, according to Saturday Night Live, I was the guy with the fidget spinner,” Eric Trump joked. “I was the guy at 33-years-old who is running a $12 billion company that my father asked me obviously run everything that is Trump outside of Washington, D.C., but I am the guy with the fidget spinner, according to Saturday Night Live.”

Eric Trump mentioned Vance and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) as “killers” in the party, but did not endorse any particular candidate to replace his father. He also praised Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The president has earned pushback from some of his critics as he and close allies like Steve Bannon have continually teased a Trump third term despite the Constitution forbidding Trump from being elected a third time.

“I think the Republican Party’s in the best spot it’s ever been in before, and I think politics is fundamentally changed because people enjoy the fight, people understand the issues and it’s no longer a sideshow,” Trump said, calling his father the “greatest RINO [Republican in Name Only] hunter of all time.”

Trump went on to argue that 2020 was actually a good thing for Republicans as it has energized more people and led to his father being surrounded by “killers” ready to fight in his administration.

“2020 was the greatest thing that ever happened to our party, by the way,” he said. “As much as it hurt at the time because he’s just surrounded by killers who are doing a phenomenal job and, I don’t know, I think the difference between us and the Democrats is we’ll actually have a primary process.”
