Not Even Anna Wintour Can Save The Economy

anna-wintourIf the mighty, fashion industry-hoarding, bob and bangs sporting, petite, slightly frightening, inspiration behind the Blockbuster hit—The Devil Wears Prada, editor-in-chief of Vogue’s Anna Wintour can’t save the economy…then who the hell can?

In a global effort to “promote retail, restore consumer confidence, and celebrate fashion,” Miss Wintour and company organized last night’s Fashion’s Night Out in New York City and other fashion capitals around the world.

And although the city was booming from uptown to downtown with that almost tangible, enraptured energy signature of events like the Village’s Halloween Parade, it seems as though the underlying intent stated above from the event’s official website got a little lost between all the celebrity appearances, free ice cream carts, and open bars.

Put more simply: No one was actually shopping.

With the exception of a few stores like United Colors of Benetton, Banana Republic, and Anna Sui (where nothing was actually on sale, but rather her brand new super chic, super cheap Gossip Girl inspired line for Target was being previewed), there were no sales.

And like most sought after NYC events, only the lucky few deemed worthy enough actually got in to see celebrities like Victoria Beckham at Bergdorf Goodman or Sienna Miller at Intermix.

Sounds like Fashion’s Night Out was just another night in the city. Ultimate fail Anna Wintour.
