The Greatest Television Cast of All Time? Today Anchors Get Duped

In a week-long prank battle dubbed “Today Gets A Laugh,” the hosts of the popular morning show traded tricks in order to playfully embarrass the unsuspecting. So with mischief in the air, you’d think the cast would be a tad wary when TV Guide Magazine booked a photo shoot for the Today stars, claiming to have crowned them “The Greatest Television Cast of All Time.” Preposterous, no?

“That didn’t make sense to me,” Meredith Vieira told TV Guide. “But then ego takes over.” Still the group went along — none the wiser, save for the shifty Matt Lauer — only to be met by actors posing as a zany photo crew. Hidden mics and cameras looked on as the Today cast deals with a Sacha Baron Cohen-style photographer, absurd costumes and inane directions. “Pretend you’re walking on water,” they’re told.
