‘Toothy’ Sienna Miller Returns to Vogue Cover, Body Intact
Before such lofty roles as the Baronness (a wealthy European terrorist, in the forthcoming film G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra), Sienna Miller appeared on the cover of Vogue in September 2007. It was the biggest issue ever wrenched from the chilly loins of 4 Times Square (840 pages, almost 5 pounds). This month she returns to the cover of a slightly slimmer Vogue, despite her ‘toothy’-ness and ‘unruly hair’ (Anna Wintour’s words, not ours).
In 2007, producer-director R.J. Cutler tracked Wintour and the Vogue staff during the production of that record-breaking issue to shoot The September Issue, which took home the Grand Jury Prize for Excellence in Cinematography at Sundance this year.
After one screening at the festival, Wintour joined Cutler on stage to answer a few questions from behind her sunglasses:
“Are there a few things that we would maybe like not to be in the film? Certainly, but R.J. has ignored every single one of my comments.”
We imagine, one of those ‘things’ was the (documented) decision to tack one photograph of Miller’s head on to a different photograph of her body. And while there’s no documentary evidence this time around it seems that in 2009 there are no hard feelings between Miller and Wintour. Then again, there is that deck at the bottom of this month’s cover, floating somewhere above Miller’s right elbow: “Are you ready to cut your hair?”
[Cutler’s The September Issue hits theaters August 28th].
