Football coaching legend Bill Belichick and his 24-year-old girlfriend have reportedly filed a trademark for the term “Gold Digger.”
Belichick, who’s now the head coach at the University of North Carolina, went public with his relationship with Jordon Hudson in the fall of 2023. As is often the case when an older, famous person finds themselves attached to a much younger, relatively unknown romantic partner, many were quick to assume that Hudson was simply in it to elevate her own status. With that being the case, Hudson likely saw the term “gold digger” — used to describe someone who enters a relationship primarily for wealth — on the internet frequently.
According to Darren Rovell of Clict, the couple is now attempting to make money off the insult:
A company owned by North Carolina football coach Bill Belichick and managed by his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, has filed to trademark the term “Gold Digger,” with the intention to use the mark on jewelry and key chains.
The couple hasn’t stopped there. As noted by Rovell, Belichick and Jordan’s company filed 17 other trademarks earlier in the year — including “Chapel Bill,” “The Belichick Way,” and “Trail of Salty Tears.”
The latter trademark, seemingly another way of trolling their critics, received backlash for being a play on the Trail of the Tears — the forced displacement of Native Americans in the 19th century.
