Fox Sports Radio Host GOES OFF on Lakers Drafting LeBron’s Son: ‘Worst Decision That’s Ever Happened in Professional Sports’

Fox Sports Radio host Rob Parker on Tuesday called the Lakers drafting Bronny James “the worst decision that’s ever happened in professional sports.”

Bronny — the son of NBA star LeBron James — was selected with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft last week. The 19-year-old played just one season at the University of Southern California, and he only played in 25 games after suffering cardiac arrest just before the season began.

In those 25 games, Bronny averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. He shot just 36.6% from the field. Despite those less-than-stellar numbers, he surprisingly declared for the NBA Draft.

After initially being projected to go undrafted, Bronny saw his stock rise thanks to impressive performances at the Draft Combine.

Still, Parker believes the fact that he was drafted will set a bad precedent in the league.

“I think this is the worst decision that’s ever happened in professional sports, and I’m dead serious when I say that,” Parker said on his show The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard & Rob Parker. “It changes what the essence of the game has always been, which is about competition.

“I heard a lot of people throw around ‘nepotism,’ and there’s been plenty of nepotism and I’ve been critical… Chris, it’s wrong. We’ve seen it — especially in the front office. But it ain’t the same as what we’ve seen here as far as on the field. Someone would have to show me on the field where some guy got a son a spot on the team, or some owner put his nephew on. ‘Oh, just take the last spot on the roster. It doesn’t matter. I want you to be on the team because I own the team.’ And that’s the part where I think LeBron looks at his legacy, that he’ll be leaving the sport in a worse place than when he got here.”
