‘If Only That Guy Knew!’ ESPN Spots Dave Matthews Fan Seconds After Showing the Real Dave Matthews at Mets Game
ESPN’s camera crew did an impressive job spotting a fan of Dave Matthews Band right after showing the actual Dave Matthews at the same New York Mets game.
In the seventh inning of the Mets’ Sunday game against the Chicago Cubs, the broadcast switched to a camera trained on Matthews seated behind home plate. Seconds later, it switched to a different camera that somehow found a man wearing a Dave Matthews band t-shirt as he made his way back to his seen.
“Oh my gosh!” announcer Jon Sciambi said. “If only that guy knew! Somebody just tell him. He’s out on the bleachers. Dave’s behind the plate. Bring that beers to Dave Matthews!”
Analyst David Cone, apparently unhappy with the size of the shirt the man was wearing, then came out of nowhere with a shot at his weight.
“And try the XL on the shirt,” Cone added.
“Not the ‘shmedium?'” Sciambi asked.
“Not the ‘shmedium,’ no,” Cone responded.
ESPN then showed angles of the Matthews and the fan side-by-side. It appeared as though the fan might have gotten wind of what was going on and took his phone out to record something.
“Phone’s ringing!” Sciambi said. “Take a picture of Dave Matthews.”
