Vice President JD Vance is worried the NFL could start rigging games for the Kansas City Chiefs now that Travis Kelce is engaged to Taylor Swift.
Earlier this week, Kelce and Swift briefly dominated the news cycle when they announced their engagement to the world on social media. The two began publicly dating in 2023, and Swift has become a fixture at Chiefs games.
Throughout the Chiefs’ dominance over the last few years, many fans have accused the league of favoritism for the Patrick Mahomes-led team. Since the start of Kelce’s relationship with Swift, conspiracy theorists have taken things a step further by suggesting the league rigs games for the Chiefs to maximize its exposure to Swift’s massive fanbase.
In an interview with USA Today published Wednesday, Vance argued that the league could take things to another level now that one of its biggest stars plans to marry one of the most famous people on the planet.
“I will say, as a football fan, as a Cincinnati Bengals fan,” Vance said, “I hope that the NFL does not put a thumb on the scale for the Kansas City Chiefs just because Travis Kelce is now getting married to maybe the most famous woman in the world.”
The vice president claimed he was worried the league is planning “Super Bowl wedding” for the couple.
“Can’t do it,” he continued. “The Kansas City Chiefs have to follow the same rules as everybody else.”
