After an abysmal performance against Jake Paul that was widely panned as an embarrassing coda to his storied boxing career, Mike Tyson is set to enter the ring again to fight Floyd Mayweather.
On Thursday evening, Tyson tweeted a flyer announcing the fight. Billed as “Legend vs. Legend,” the exhibition fight is set to take place sometime in 2026. In a press release obtained by CBS Sports, the 59-year-old admitted he didn’t think the fight had a chance of happening:
“When CSI came to me about stepping in the ring with Floyd Mayweather,” Tyson said in the release. “I thought, ‘No way this happens,’ but, Floyd said yes.
“This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen. However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable — and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets. I still can’t believe Floyd wants to really do this. It’s going to be detrimental to his health, but he wants to do it, so it’s signed and it’s happening!”
An exact date for the fight was not announced at the time of writing.
Last year, Tyson stepped into the ring to take on Paul for his first sanctioned professional fight in nearly two decades. The fight was initially delayed due to a brief health scare from Tyson, but ultimately took place in November. It was widely considered to be a mockery of the sport.
