NY Mets Announcer in Awe of Pitcher’s ‘Unusually Large’ Legs in Bizarre On-Air Moment: ‘Look at the Thighs!’

New York Mets announcer Keith Hernandez was utterly dumbfounded by the size of Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Spencer Strider’s legs on Tuesday.

From the moment Strider set foot in the MLB, he stood out for both his elite play and his unusual physique for the position. Pitchers, for the most part, come in various shapes and size; but it’s not often that one comes along with the muscular lower body of an NFL running back. Because of this, his legs have been the subject of countless social media jokes and memes.

In the second inning of the Braves’ game against the Mets on Tuesday, Hernandez couldn’t help but take part in that discussion when he got a look at Strider from the booth. His remarks came in the middle of a conversation about Strider’s pitching repertoire.

“And folks, check out the legs of Strider,” Hernandez said on the SNY broadcast. “I mean, he — his legs are unusually large! Look at the thighs! My goodness!”

Play-by-play announcer Gary Cohen added that Strider had the “biggest pitcher’s legs since Jonathan Broxton,” a reference to the former two-time All-Star who stood at an imposing 6-foot-4, 285 pounds on the mound.

“They’re like big oaks!” Hernandez continued.
