WATCH: Kansas City Chiefs Win Super Bowl LVIII On Last-Second TD in Overtime
The Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LVIII in walk-off fashion thanks to a touchdown pass in overtime from Patrick Mahomes to Mecole Hardman.
The San Francisco 49ers received the ball to begin overtime. Quarterback Brock Purdy led the Niners to a lengthy drive that ended with a field goal. Thanks to new overtime rules, the Chiefs had a chance to respond by either tying the game or winning with a touchdown.
Mahomes made big plays with both his legs and his arm on the ensuing drive. As the Chiefs approached the Niners’ goal line, the clock continued to run. The ball was snapped with just six seconds remaining in the first overtime period. Mahomes ran a play-action pass and found a wide open Hardman in the end zone to win the Super Bowl.
The win was the third Super Bowl victory for Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, and head coach Andy Reid. The Chiefs are also the first back-to-back champions since the New England Patriots.
