WATCH: Two Chicago Bulls Trying — and Failing — to Catch a Backboard Pass Is One of the Most Embarrassing NBA Blunders You’ll Ever See
A pair of Chicago Bulls players were part of one of the most embarrassing moments of the season during their Tuesday loss to the New York Knicks.
Seconds after the second quarter began, Bulls center Andre Drummond poked the ball loose from Knicks forward Bojan Bogdanovic. Bulls forward Torrey Craig picked the ball up and ran to the other end of the court with no defenders in front of him.
With a clear path to the basketball, Craig decided to add some flair to the play by throwing the ball off the backboard to himself to dunk it in. Unfortunately for Craig, a trailing Drummond thought the lob was meant for him and jumped for the ball at the same time.
With both men trying to dunk the ball, the three-on-nothing fast break resulted in a missed shot and no points.
“Torrey Craig off the glass,” MSG announcer Gus Johnson said as the play unfolded. “Oh, and he missed the jam! Hot dog!”
After a break in the action, the broadcast went back to that play.
“Watch Craig see blood,” analyst Walt Frazier said. “Drummond thought it was for him! So he interfered with Craig.”
Making the sequence even worse was the fact that on the very next Knicks possession, Drummond rolled his ankle and left the game.
