ABC’s Cecilia Vega Presses Sarah Sanders on Whether Kushner is Causing Distraction Over Loan Scandal

At today’s White House press briefing, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was grilled briefly on the recent controversies surrounding senior advisor (and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law) Jared Kushner that have popped up in recent days. And in standard Sanders fashion, she brushed off the questions without providing much insight.

After asking if Trump wants to get rid of Attorney General Jeff Sessions — Sanders answered “no” — ABC News’ Cecilia Vega brought up Kushner, who has been under the media microscope lately regarding reports that he took loans from companies he met with at the White House and concerns that foreign officials are trying to manipulate him.

With Sanders saying Trump is not considering dumping Kushner, Vega asked the press secretary if the presidential son-in-law had become a “distraction giving all the controversies that he has been at the center of.”

“Jared is still a valued member of the administration and he will continue to focus on the work that he has been doing. And we’ll continue pushing forward on that front as well,” Sanders noted.

The ABC News report questioned if there were concerns about conflict of interest over Kushner holding White House meetings with those who loaned his businesses money, Sanders merely responded that she “would refer you to the statement that was put out by his attorney.”

Vega pressed again about the appearance of a conflict of interest, causing Sanders to once again point to the attorney statement.
