Ainsley Earhardt Confronts Sarah Sanders Over Border Terrorist Apprehensions: ‘Why The Inflated Figures?’
On Wednesday, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked why she recently mischaracterized the number of known or suspected terrorists apprehended by border officials in 2018.
When Sanders spoke to Fox News’ Chris Wallace on Sunday, she was fact-checked live after claiming President Donald Trump was right to declare a national crisis because of 4,000 terrorists who were supposedly detained on the southern border. Subsequent reporting shows the number of arrested suspected terrorists is actually a lot smaller than that, and since the White House is now retreating from that 4,000 claim, Fox & Friends asked Sanders why she pushed the claim in the first place.
“Why the inflated figure?” Ainsley Earhardt asked.
Sanders’ response.
“I should have said 4,000 at all points of entry, not just at the southern border. The bottom line is whether it’s one, four, fourteen or four thousand, one terrorists coming into our country in illegal fashion to do us harm one too many, and we have to take every step possible to prevent that from happening, including protecting our most vulnerable points of entry, and we know that to be the southern border. We have to do what is necessary to protect our border, to protect the people, and that’s exactly what President Trump has done, and that’s exactly what he laid out in his speech last night.”
