Ana Navarro Refers to Elon Musk as Trump’s ‘First Lady’ After Musk Joins Family Photo That Didn’t Include Melania
CNN commentator Ana Navarro expressed concern about the influence Elon Musk may wield in President-Elect Donald Trump’s second administration.
On Friday, Axios reported that Musk joined a call Trump had with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“I promise you will be happy with me,” Trump told Zelensky after the Ukrainian president congratulated him on returning to the White House. Sources told Axios Musk said he would continue providing Ukraine with internet access via his Starlink satellites.
Hours after the report, panelists on CNN’s AC360 discussed the implications of Musk’s presence on the call.
“What do you make of him joining this call?” Anderson Cooper asked Republican strategist Scott Jennings.
“That doesn’t surprise me at all,” Jennings replied. “Of course, Donald Trump can put anyone on the phone that he wants. I mean, I assume a lot of these calls are congratulatory in nature. So, as further, more policy-driven calls take place, I would expect there to be other policy and administration officials or designated officials on the calls. But at some juncture, Trump won, and he’s got a cadre of advisers that’s obviously gonna include Elon Musk. And so, I don’t think anybody should be surprised by this or alarmed by it either way.”
While Navarro agreed that allowing Musk to join the call was Trump’s prerogative, she found it “weird” and noted an election night photo of Trump, his family, and Musk. However, soon-to-be First Lady Melania Trump was not in the picture:
I think it’s a little weird, right? I mean, Elon Musk seems to be everywhere at all times. He’s like, secretary of everything, and at the same time, he’s like First Lady. The other day I saw this picture of him. It was a picture of Trump with his entire family except Melania, but Elon Musk was there. And now you hear about this. There’s obviously also conflicts of interest. This is somebody who has contracts with the Department of Defense. This is somebody who has Starlink that’s a big part of what’s going on in Ukraine.
I find it a little weird. But as Scott said, they won. He gets to do whatever he wants, and if he wants Elon everywhere, all the time, that’s what’s going to happen.
