Black Darren Wilson Supporter to Megyn Kelly: ‘You Have to Give People a Chance’

Robin Clearmountain, a self-identified supporter of Ferguson, Mo., police officer Darren Wilson, said Monday on Fox News that the “distrust” of police in the city by blacks is “very disturbing.”

Clearmountain, who is also black and lives in the St. Louis, Mo., area, said she supports Wilson because she has “always had a deep love and respect” for police officers.

Asked about the suspicion many blacks in Ferguson have toward the police there, she said, “That level of paranoia and mistrust is very disturbing to me.” She noted, however, that the historically contentious relationship blacks have had with U.S. authority could not be discounted.

“At some point you have to give people a chance,” Clearmountain said of her support for Wilson. “And as far as I’m concerned, anyone willing to take a bullet for me or to jump in and save me from a catastrophic situation– that is family to me. And I have to support these people for the job they do… That’s my family.”

Ferguson is currently in a state of unrest following the killing of Michael Brown, an 18-year-old black man who was unarmed when he was shot dead on Aug. 9 by Wilson. Wilson has been in hiding while a grand jury deliberates whether to indict him.

A rally supporting Wilson was held near St. Louis on Saturday.
