‘You Sad Weirdo’: Chris Hayes Lights Up ‘Deeply Pathetic’ Trump Over ‘Lake America’ Stunt
MS NOW’s Chris Hayes mocked President Donald Trump over an executive order renaming Lake Ontario, calling Trump “sad” and “deeply pathetic.”
On Thursday, Trump held an Oval Office signing ceremony and signed an order directing the U.S. government to change the name of Lake Ontario to “Lake America” on “executive department and agency maps, contracts, and other documents and communications.”
The move comes amid the ongoing trade war that Trump has instigated with Canada.
On Thursday’s All In, Hayes teed up a TikTok video of Trump by saying, “There’s this old man sitting at his desk with a little Sharpie, reduced to a state of total delusion.”
In the video, Trump takes a map featuring Lake Ontario and uses a marker to write “Lake America” on it. It ends with the president saying, “Enjoy Lake America.”
“I mean, just deeply pathetic,” Hayes reacted. “I mean, pathetic in a way that almost kind of gave me the willies. If you’re saying to yourself, ‘That’s crazy. He can’t just rename a Great Lake by scribbling on a map,’ you’re right. Today, he scribbled his signature on an executive order directing the Department of the Interior to update the lake’s name on U.S. maps. This is what consumes the president of the United States.”
Hayes played a clip from the signing ceremony, where Trump noted he had signed a similar order about the “Gulf of America.”
“Now, all we need is an ocean,” the president said. “So, maybe we’ll have to change the name of the Atlantic and/or Pacific. Maybe we’ll change them both.”
Hayes ripped Trump, calling him a “sad weirdo”:
Sure, buddy. Go ahead. Change them both. Change them both to what? American Ocean One, American Ocean Two? Knock yourself out. Write all over the place with your Sharpie. You’re doing great.
Of course, it’s not the first time we’ve seen Trump try to reorder reality with a map and a magic Sharpie. Remember this one? For the hurricane track that he drew? You see? He drew in there by Alabama, to of course, the aforementioned Gulf of Mexico, which you heard Trump crow about just then.
That was a few weeks after returning to office when again, he was at his strongest, Right? “I am the king and now it’s “Gulf of America,” But now “Lake America?” “Lake America?” You sad weirdo. Nobody wants this. You know what they want? They want cheaper gas.
