Brian Kilmeade’s Got Jokes After Biden Defends Autopen Use to New York Times: ‘I’m Sure He Needed a Nap Right After’

Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade quipped that former President Joe Biden “needed a nap right away” as the ex-commander in chief spoke with the New York Times to defend his use of autopen in the final days of his presidency.

In the Times interview, which dropped Sunday, Biden backed the controversial pardons, saying he “made every decision.” He also called out “liar” Republicans who insist his staff used autopen without Biden’s knowledge.

While discussing The Times piece Monday morning, Kilmeade couldn’t resist a jab at the former president as he returned to the Fox & Friends curvy couch, saying, “I’m sure he needed a nap right away.”

Read the exchange here:

BRIAN KILMEADE: So let’s talk about Joe Biden. He gave an interview, Ainsley, to the New York Times. He talked to ’em for 10 minutes.

LAWRENCE JONES: First time in five years.

KILMEADE: I’m sure he needed a nap right away.

AINSLEY EARHARDT: He was defending use of the autopen for pardoning and clemency decisions. He claims that he made all his decision and he called Republicans liars. He said Mr. Biden did not individually approve each name for the categorical pardons that apply to large numbers of people, he and aides confirmed. Rather, after extensive discussion of different possible criteria, he signed off on the standards that he wanted to be used to determine which convicts would qualify for a reduction in sentence. Even after Mr. Biden made that decision, one former aid said the Bureau of risons kept providing additional information about specific inmates resulting in small changes to the list. Rather than ask Mr. Biden to keep signing revised versions his staff waited, and then ran the final version through the auto pen which they saw as a routine procedure, the aide said.

Republicans have jumped on the autopen controversy, which has been branded by President Donald Trump as America’s “BIGGEST POLITICAL SCANDAL,” launching a couple of congressional probes into its use.
