CBC Olympics Announcer Confuses Swimmers, Declares Ryan Lochte the Winner
In an embarrassing screw-up Thursday, a CBC Olympics commentator confused which lanes the American swimmers were in, calling the entire event as though Ryan Lochte were Michael Phelps and vice versa.
“Finally, he’s going to do it! Ryan Lochte is going to beat Michael Phelps in this event!” Elliotte Friedman announced excitedly as Phelps easily won the the 200 individual medley.
“Phelps might not even make the podium!” he announced, clearly shocked. In reality of course it was Lochte who petered out and placed fifth.
Unfortunately, most of the videos of the gaffe have been removed from the Internet because the IOC sucks. So this is the best quality we could find.
In true Canadian fashion, Friedman did say “sorry” later on Twitter.
I’m sorry everyone. I blew it. No excuses
