At the Grammys Monday night, Lady Gaga performed a tribute to the late David Bowie, condensing the icon’s five-decade career into a seven-minute mashup that was as much an homage to Bowie’s legendary music as it was to his capacity for reinvention and transformation.
With admirable verve, the performer sang and danced her way, in quick succession, through “Space Oddity,” “Changes,” “Ziggy Stardust,” “Suffragette City,” “Rebel Rebel,” “Fashion,” “Fame,” (a few bars of) “Under Pressure,” “Let’s Dance,” and “Heroes.”
