‘Right’: Chris Cuomo Nods Along as RFK Jr. Claims Schizophrenia Can Be Cured by ‘Dietary Changes’
NewsNation host Chris Cuomo nodded in agreement with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who claimed that not only is schizophrenia being cured, but that it is being done via dietary changes.
Schizophrenia is a severe mental health disorder that “is marked by hallucinations, delusions, disorganized speech, grossly disorganized behavior, and negative signs and symptoms such as reduced emotional expression, avolition, and cognitive impairment.”
There is no cure for the disorder, but on Monday’s Cuomo, Kennedy insisted otherwise.
“What do you think can get us to a better place, Bobby?” asked Cuomo. “What have you figured out while you’ve been in the role and actually been inside the machine?”
“I try to stay within my guardrails,” the secretary answered. “I try to look at the things that I actually can change. And you know, we’re looking at the contribution of [selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor] drugs, which are new in the experience of humanity.”
Kennedy went on to rail against “the food supply, which also affects moods.” He then pivoted to an alleged cure for schizophrenia:
KENNEDY: You know, there’s a professor at Harvard, Dr. [unintelligible, Polin? Paulen?], who is actually curing schizophrenia–
CUOMO: [nodding] Right.
KENNEDY: –with using dietary changes.
CRUOMO: Right.
KENNEDY: You know, there are case after case of that. So, you know, I really try to focus on the things that I can change here at HHS and then hope everybody else is doing their job to make this situation better.
Kennedy did not elaborate on the alleged cure, and Cuomo, having already agreed with the secretary, did not follow up. A search for the secretary’s claim yielded an article about Dr. Uma Naidoo, a Harvard psychiatrist who has made misleading claims about the ability of certain foods to cure mental health disorders, such as schizophrenia and depression.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services did not immediately respond to a request for elaboration. NewsNation did not respond to a request for comment before publication.
Kennedy has made a slew of unfounded claims about vaccines causing autism and once alleged that Covid-19 was “ethnically targeted” to spare Chinese people and Ashkenazi Jews.
NewsNation later replied to Mediaite with a statement that said, “Chris Cuomo said he was merely acknowledging that the doctor at Harvard exists and has been making claims regarding the management of Schizophrenia.”
