Chuck Todd Goes off on Impeachment Antics: Both Parties ‘Driving People from the Polls’
MSNBC political analyst Chuck Todd went off on Morning Joe Wednesday morning over what he characterized as the cynicism of both parties in exploiting the specter of impeachment to energize their respective bases, damning the GOP’s impeachment chatter, House speaker John Boehner’s (R-OH) substitute lawsuit, and the Democrats’ successful fundraising efforts off of both.
“Boehner’s up there with this ridiculous lawsuit,” Todd said. “[White House Press Secretary] Josh Earnest is sitting at the podium trying to tick off names of, ‘Ooh, look at the Republicans who want impeachment.’ It’s not serious. The lawsuit’s not serious. The impeachment talk’s not serious. This is playground stuff.”

“I think the White House ought to be embarrassed for how they’re trying to play this,” he continued. “Boehner — the idea he’s saying, ‘We’re not talking impeachment, the lawsuit?’ Please. That’s about placating the impeachment caucus in his own party. This is an embarrassing moment for everyone in Washington. The leaders of both parties, they’re driving away people from the polls, driving people away from politics. This is cynical. It’s ugly. It’s disgusting.”
