CNN’s Burnett Challenges Priebus: Why Won’t GOP Make a ‘Fresh Start’ and Work with Obama?

Things got tense on CNN Wednesday evening when Erin Burnett interviewed RNC chairman Reince Priebus about the Republican Party’s plans moving forward after last night’s Senate wins. Right off the bat, Burnett asked her guest to respond to comments made by President Barack Obama about wanting to compromise at this afternoon’s press conference and Priebus shot back, “I don’t believe a think he says.”

“He’s been talking about immigration reform for seven years, so you’re using his words as if they actually mean something, and asking me to respond to it,” Priebus continued. “All he’s been doing for the last year is lying to Hispanic voters across the country.”

But with both Obama and soon-to-be Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) saying they want to find ways to compromise, Burnett asked Priebus why he’s not “putting forth a tone that is, ‘alright, let’s do a fresh start and work together.'”

“To come back and say, after the American people repudiated the policies of Barack Obama and everyone who connected to him and to say, ‘what are you going to do to compromise with the person the American people had just repudiated?'” Priebus argued. “I think it’s a little bizarre.”
