CNN’s Honig Reports Trump-Supporting FBI Agents Are ‘Horrified’ by Kash Patel’s Performance

CNN Senior Legal Analyst Elie Honig said FBI agents he knows who support President Donald Trump are aghast at the job performance of Trump’s handpicked director, Kash Patel.

Patel testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, and predictably, the hearing became something of a circus. The FBI director was grilled by Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA), brawled with Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), and absolutely lost it on Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA).

The testimony came less than a week after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was gunned down on a Utah college campus. Shortly after the shooting, Patel tweeted that the gunman was in custody, but had to retract the statement. Ultimately, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson turned himself in to authorities 33 hours after the killing. During the manhunt, Patel reportedly berated his agents and accused them of not giving him information in a timely manner.

Honig, a former federal prosecutor, joined Tuesday’s CNN NewsNight and said FBI agents he has heard from aren’t exactly giving their director rave reviews. For good measure, he also let Attorney General Pam Bondi have it:

The job of the United States attorney general and the director of the FBI is stability, leadership, conservative. And I mean lowercase “c” conservative. Be careful. Protect your people. And neither of them is doing that right now. Pam Bondi nor Kash Patel.

I mean, for Kash Patel to tweet, “We’ve got the guy,” and then have to retract it is humiliating. It undermines his own credibility and the credibility of the entire bureau. I know more FBI agents than I can count, many of whom are Trump supporters who are horrified by the job he is doing. He is unqualified. Both of them are much more concerned with getting a viral tweet or a clip than with providing steady sound, stable leadership for DOJ and FBI.

Honig was also not a fan of Patel’s testimony regarding Jeffrey Epstein. The director told senators that the deceased sex trafficker only trafficked women and girls to “himself.”

“Does anybody believe this?!” he asked incredulously. “Does anybody believe in a world where it was just Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein trafficking girls back and forth?”
