CNN’s Frederik Pleitgen was on the scene reporting on the major police operation that was already underway, speaking with one man who witnessed much of the activity. The man said that someone “…came out of the Metro Underground… and he had some rifle, shot by police [sic].”
Pleitgen could not confirm if the man had been killed or just shot in the leg, though the man who was being interviewed simply said, “He looked like a Muslim man.” Schaerbeek is the neighborhood where, on Tuesday, Belgian law enforcement found an apartment linked to both the Brussels and Paris terror attacks with ISIS flags, chemicals, and homemade explosive devices.
