Eric Trump Says Sliwa Should Drop Out to Give Cuomo a Chance: ‘At Least He’s Not Trying to Nationalize Grocery Stores’
Eric Trump urged Republican Curtis Sliwa to drop out of the New York City mayor’s race in an appearance on Fox News Tuesday, arguing it would give Andrew Cuomo a chance to beat Democrat Zohran Mamdani.
Anchor Sandra Smith interviewed Trump about a variety of topics on Tuesday’s episode of America Reports, kicking off the segment with a clip of Sliwa saying he was “not dropping out, under no circumstance” and citing the latest New York Post cover headline: “JUST WALK AWAY, BERET,” referring to Sliwa’s trademark cap.
Sliwa staying in the race is widely viewed as making it easier for Mamdani to win, “which puts business leaders on edge,” Smith said as she introduced Trump.
“What do you want to see happen here?” she asked. “I’m sure you’ve given a lot of thought to it. Should Sliwa drop out of this race?”
Replied Trump:
I want New York to stop being a petri dish, right? That’s exactly what’s happened. If you just left New York alone, if you focused on clean streets, if you focused on, you know, safe streets, and you let capitalism do what it does better in New York City than anywhere around the world, you would have the greatest thriving city anywhere.
But these games — I mean, what is this? So you have Zohran saying the NYPD should be disbanded, right, defund the NYPD, he’s going out there saying that [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu should be arrested, and next time he comes into New York for the UN or anything else, the guy should be arrested, he’s going after [Indian Prime Minister Narendra] Modi, saying that Modi’s a war criminal and he should be [arrested].
He wants to go nationalize every grocery store. Why do we have to always be an experiment? Why can’t we have, again, great education, low taxes, clean streets, safe streets, and lets New York do what it does best, which is capitalism? I’m sick and tired of this game.
“But you would prefer to see Cuomo win, fair, than Mamdani?” asked Smith.
“Oh, 100 percent, absolutely,” Trump replied.
“So can Cuomo pull off victory if Sliwa is still in the race?” she asked.
“No, no, of course not,” said Trump. “And by the way, that’s why The New York Post, that’s why one of your own companies, is strongly encouraging him to get out of the race, as is everybody else. Listen, you know, I love Republicans, but the problem is right now the guy is polling at like 9%. I’m not saying I’m the biggest Cuomo fan. I’m against a lot of things that Cuomo has done but at least he’s not trying to nationalize grocery stores. At least he’s not trying to raise taxes further in New York.”
