Former Federal Prosecutor Sounds the Alarm on Kash Patel Leading the FBI: ‘It Really, Really Stinks’
Former U.S. Attorney Harry Litman expressed alarm at the prospect of Kash Patel being the next director of the FBI. President Donald Trump nominated the former Defense Department official to the post after Trump made it clear he would fire former Director Christopher Wray, who resigned rather than be fired by the man who hired him in 2017.
In a series of media appearances and writings, Patel has expressed his desire to exact revenge on Trump’s political opponents.
“We’re going to come after you, whether it’s criminal or civilly, we’ll figure that out,” Patel said in 2023. “But yeah, we’re putting you all on notice.” In his book, Government Gangsters, Patel lists 60 current and former federal employees, though he denies this is an “enemies list.”
During his confirmation hearing this week, Patel dodged a question about whether he would “gut” the FBI if confirmed, though a purge of the bureau appears already underway while he remains the nominee.
Appearing on Friday’s Deadline: White House on MSNBC, Litman addressed Patel’s comments in his confirmation hearing, where the nominee said he would merely be executing the agenda of Trump and his attorney general.
“Patel, in his different kind of prevarications at the hearing said, ‘Well, this will go through the DOJ and the White House,'” Litman said. “Now, the White House has asserted its ability to meddle in specific prosecutions. But remember, this demand came from whom? The deputy attorney general, and who is Trump’s old personal lawyer [Todd Blanche]. So, that’s something that the FBI is gonna have to salute and follow, submit this whole list. And in a way, it’s gonna look like not just Kash Patel, but also the new guard in town commanding this wave of retribution.”
