Former VA Gov. McDonnell Speaks on Indictment: I’ve Been ‘Falsely and Wrongfully Accused’
Former Virginia governor Bob McDonnell delivered brief remarks late Tuesday in response to he and his wife being indicted for accepting gifts from businessman Jonnie Williams. McDonnell defiantly insisted that he’s been “falsely and wrongfully accused” and “wrongfully attacked,” proclaiming he did nothing wrong.
McDonnell made it clear that neither Williams nor Star Scientific, the company he used to head, received government benefits or any kind, and they “never sought not received any special benefits from any public official.” He argued that if what he did was wrong, then every single political official in the country would have to be brought up on charges too.
He concluded, “I believe that the facts and the law are clearly on our side, and we will face these false allegations with strength and full resolve.”
