Fox Analyst Praises Rosie O’Donnell Fleeing US for Ireland Over Trump: ‘This May Surprise Viewers a Little Bit’

Fox News contributor Guy Benson has heaped surprising praise for Rosie O’Donnell after she packed up her family and fled to Ireland because of her archenemy, President Donald Trump.

O’Donnell revealed in a TikTok video that she had moved to the Emerald Isle just days before Trump’s inauguration and is in the process of applying for Irish citizenship.

However, she would consider returning to the U.S. when “it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there.”

“Protect your sanity,” O’Donnell said in the clip.

Benson told Brian Kilmeade on Fox & Friends that it’s clear which person came out on top in the feud.

“It was about 20 years ago, Donald Trump and Rosie O’Donnell had a vicious feud with brutal insults flying back and forth. If we do a status check on that feud, Donald Trump has just been elected president of the United States for the second time and Rosie O’Donnell has fled the country. So, I think he probably got the better end of that battle,” Benson argued.

He added, however, that he wanted to “praise” O’Donnell for following through on a threat plenty of celebrities have made in the past.

Benson said:

“The second thing, and this might be a little surprising to viewers, I want to give her credit. I want to praise her a little bit because we’re talking about her for the first time in a long time so congrats on that. But, more importantly, as long as I have been politically aware, Brian, we have heard from various celebrities through the years, ‘if a Republican wins X election I am leaving the country,’ right? They make this threat, they make this claim, this vow, and then, of course, once it happens, they are comfortable here, they are cushy, they didn’t really mean it, it’s all hollow. In her case she has actually done it, right? So it wasn’t just an empty threat. She has packed up and left. So good for her. She followed through.”

O’Donnell and Trump have publicly feuded for years, long before the billionaire jumped into politics. The pair clashed in 2006 when O’Donnell was co-hosting The View and she pushed Trump to be lenient on Miss USA Tara Conner over revelations about her then-drug use.

Trump called O’Donnell a “real loser” afterward and the two sporadically traded jabs ever since.

Most notably, Trump called out O’Donnell during a tense exchange with former Fox News host Megyn Kelly during a 2015 GOP presidential debate.

“You’ve called women you don’t like ‘fat pigs,’ ‘dogs,’ ‘slobs,’ and ‘disgusting animals,'” Kelly said before Trump cut her off to say, “Only Rosie O’Donnell.”
