Fox Anchor Challenges Tea Party Senator Mike Lee Over Debt Ceiling Negotiations

Fox News’ Gregg Jarrett gave Republican Senator Mike Lee a bit of tough time today when the Tea Party caucus member insisted he wasn’t yet sold on the “tentative deal” now floating around Washington. Jarrett informed Lee that Congressional Republicans received about 3/4 of what they were demanding, and asked shouldn’t that be enough to secure a compromise?

Lee however continued to stress the benefits of a balanced budget Amendment, particularly to ensure fiscal discipline in future years. Jarrett reminded Lee though that “the art of compromise is endemic in Washington D.C., it’s the only way anything could ever get done” and wondered why now wouldn’t be a good time to declare victory and accept the deal?

As a final word of caution, Jarrett warned, “isn’t it likely that you may win this debt battle, but you’re going to lose the war of public opinion?” Lee however was not convinced in the slightest, repeating that the American people sent him and his colleagues to fix Washington’s spending problem and that’s exactly what they intend to do.
