Fox Announces Mariah Carey As New American Idol Judge

Fox has officially named Mariah Carey as a new judge on “American Idol.”

The singer-songwriter will be joining the show at the start of its twelfth season. Carey’s appointment was set in stone following weeks of speculation as to whether or not she would join the show as a judge.

This has surely got to be a relief for Fox and “American Idol” producer Nigel Lythgoe, who was sorely disappointed when both Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez left the judge panel within days of each other.

Long-time judge Randy Jackson is expected to remain on the show, though a last replacement has so far not been found. Recent rumors suggest Fox may be considering former contestant Adam Lambert to fill in as the show’s second male judge.
