Fox Guest on Fat-Shaming: ‘If You Don’t Want to Be Called Fat, Then Don’t Be Fat!’

Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence has been rather outspoken about the media’s obsession with body image, most recently going off on fat-shaming to Barbara Walters. Fox News’ Gretchen Carlson tackled the issue on Wednesday, with guest Dee Dee Benkie going against the grain to say fat-shaming really isn’t all that bad.

Fox Business’ Lauren Simonetti said Lawrence went a tad overboard by suggesting fat-shaming should be “illegal,’ but she agreed with the larger point about self-esteem and the media needing to conduct itself at a higher standard.

Benkie disagreed.

“This is individual responsibility. I mean, this is up to the individual lifestyle. If you’re gonna be fat, you’re gonna get called fat. If you don’t want to be called fat, then don’t be fat!”

Stacey Nelkin argued fat-shaming is just as bad as calling a guy a “fag,” but Benkie insisted, “You either get over it or you put down the Big Mac!”

Fat shaming became a particularly heated issue just weeks ago after one woman posted a controversial photo suggesting mothers need to get in shape.
