Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld Lashes Out at TIME: It’s ‘Thinner Than Joy Reid’s Explanations’
Firing back against TIME magazine’s latest issue depicting President Donald Trump as a king, Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld attempted to eviscerate the publication’s reputation with a list of crude jokes that also took aim at MSNBC’s Joy Reid.
During a The Five’s discussion Thursday, he blasted the illustration of Trump looking into a mirror which appears to transform him into a monarchic ruler wearing a crown.
“I think TIME has become a high school newspaper,” Gutfeld said, just before shuffling through a handful of notes scribbled down with a sharpie.
“Let’s try these out,” he said. “TIME is officially thinner than Joy Reid’s explanations for her blog posts. TIME magazine is thinner than Brian Stelter‘s hairline. TIME magazine is thinner than CNN’s lead over the Cartoon Network. Thinner than the plot for a porn movie.”
Gutfeld then turned his attacks on the liberal media to supporters of President Barack Obama, claiming that “the same people that are accusing Trump of being like a king were probably the same people kneeling before Obama for eight years.”
Characterizations of Trump as an autocrat have become widespread following his assertion Monday that he could pardon himself if he wished, which followed the release of a confidential January memo from his lawyers which also argued that the president is legally allowed to end any federal investigation he chooses.
Portraying TIME’s cover as a vindictive move, Gutfeld said implied it was natural for the publication to run such a cover following the loss of the Democrats in the election.
“I don’t blame TIME because this is what you do when you’re out of power,” he told They’re just admitting that they are part of a team that’s out of power.”
