Fox’s Gutfeld Pushes Back on ‘Clueless’ Critics Mad He Didn’t ‘Tear’ Into Jimmy Fallon During Chummy Chat
Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld hit back at critics surprised he didn’t “tear” into Jimmy Fallon during his Tonight Show debut.
On Friday’s Gutfeld!, Gutfeld threw more praise Fallon’s way after their Thursday chat where Gutfeld recalled their first meeting in a bar, which included some friendly wrestling and a short drive that ended at the same bar.
“It was nothing like the critics predicted. They expected me, Mr. Evil Fox News, to attack Jimmy Fallon, and they were mad when I didn’t,” he said, showing headlines accusing him of playing it “safe.”
Gutfeld explained he went on the show to promote the idea that late night television needs to be “more fun.” He used the moment to take a shot at Stephen Colbert, whose Late Show will be ending in the coming months. Colbert has upped his criticism of President Donald Trump’s administration and lashed out at CBS parent company Paramount for a settlement they reached with Trump in a lawsuit over CBS reporting. Since that settlement, the FCC has given final approval to a merger between Paramount and Skydance.
“I went on the show for the same reason I started this show. Late night needs more fun. I was a gracious guest to a nice guy, and if you expected me to tear into Jimmy, then you’re as clueless and boring as Stephen Colbert interviewing Kamala Harris,” Gutfeld said.
The Fox News host further blasted Colbert, as well as Trump critic Jimmy Kimmel, while praising Fallon for risking backlash from left-leaning viewers by having him on.
“It took guts for Fallon to have me on the show, not only because he risked criticism from the left, but it exposed his audience to his handsome, witty, muscular competition,” Gutfeld said. “Talk about this coincidence, Jimmy Fallon’s contract has just been renewed by NBC through 2028. You see that, Colbert? You should have had me on. And there’s still time, Mr. Kimmel. I’ll even bring the tissues.”
