Fox’s Kilmeade: Why Not ‘Clear the Water’ of Sharks Before Surfing Events?
From yesterday, but still funny: following competitive surfer Mick Fanning’s tussle with a shark during a South African surfing competition this weekend, Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade wondered Monday morning why they didn’t just “clear the water” before a surfing meet.
“I think that the most shocking thing is that after you hear about the six attacks in North Carolina, okay, these are just swimmers,” Kilmeade said. “But then when you see a champion surfer and you have a three camera shoot and an overhead shot, you say, ‘Oh my goodness, it could happen anywhere.’”
“You would think that they would have a way of clearing the waters before a competition of this level,” he added. “But I guess they don’t.”
Actually, bodyboarders and surfers are more at risk than swimmers are, as they tend to resemble seals when on their boards, which attracts sharks.
But what about social status? “If a three-time world champion surfer isn’t safe, who is?” co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck said. Sharks don’t know who you are.
