Fox’s Tarlov Touts Polls Showing Trump Underwater on Immigration: ‘He Has Taken His Best Issue and Decimated It’
A new Quinnipiac University poll shows President Donald Trump is underwater on immigration, and Fox News’s Jessica Tarlov was all too happy to cite it on Wednesday’s edition of The Five.
Trump has dispatched agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to execute raids across the country to arrest undocumented immigrants. The president campaigned heavily on the issue and has advertised his detention and deportation policies, sometimes in bizarre, if not illegal ways.
On Wednesday, Quinnipiac released a survey – conducted between June 5 and June – showing just 38% approve of the job Trump is doing overall. Perhaps more notable is the fact that Trump is well underwater on his signature issue of immigration, with 43% approving, versus 54% who disapprove. The news comes amid Trump’s federal crackdown on protests in Los Angeles, which have been a hotbed of ICE activity. Trump has federalized 4,000 National Guard soldiers and deployed 700 Marines to the area over the objections of California Governor Gavin Newsom.
“This brazen abuse of power by a sitting president inflamed a combustible situation, putting our people, our officers, and even our National Guard at risk,” Newsom said in a primetime address on Tuesday.
Tarlov agreed with Newsom and pointed to the poll.
“So, Donald Trump, negative 12 approval in general, negative 11 on immigration, and negative 16 on deportations,” she said. “He has taken his best issue and decimated it by making these deportations in a hasty way. It used to be, go after the criminals. That’s what we heard was going to happen. Now it’s, go to the nail salons, go to the job sites, go to birthday parties, go to immigration courts. There is now no right way to do it. There is no way to be part of the system, pay your taxes, make a better life for your family, and hopefully get citizenship.”
