Frank Luntz: If Trump Stayed Focused on His Vision, the Election Would’ve Been a ‘Slam Dunk’

luntzPollster and political consultant Frank Luntz says that Donald Trump‘s campaign might have squandered the Republican Party’s chance for an easy win.

During a conversation on Face the Nation, Luntz told John Dickerson that Trump’s “rigged election” talk has added to an alarming degree of friction between voters and America’s critical institutions. Beyond the impact that it will have for down-ballot voting on Election Day, Luntz said it was curious to see the GOP so at war with itself while November 8 draws closer and closer.

Luntz went on to say that it was odd that Trump waited so long to get to the point of his campaign where he starts discussing policy-specifics. Luntz also predicted that there would be significant “recrimination” in the future, between Trump’s GOP supporters, and traditional conservatives disgusted by the mogul’s politics.

“I have never seen a campaign that has less discipline, less focus, less of an effective vision at a time when more Americans are demanding a change in the way government works,” said Luntz. “This should’ve been a slam dunk for the GOP.”
