George Conway Slams Trump On MSNBC Over Santos Commutation: ‘He’s Completely Nuts and So Is Santos’
Conservative lawyer George Conway slammed President Donald Trump over his commutation of former Congressman George Santos’ (R-NY) prison sentence during a Friday appearance on MSNBC, saying, “He’s completely nuts and so is Santos.”
Trump announced on Friday evening that he had freed Santos, writing on Truth Social that “at least Santos had the Courage, Conviction, and Intelligence to ALWAYS VOTE REPUBLICAN!”
MSNBC’s Michael Steele posed a question about Santos to Conway, asking, “Is this the crap that we’ve come to at this point?”
“It’s completely nuts, but he’s completely nuts,” said Conway. “And so is Santos. Maybe that’s the thing that joins them all together. Look, under any normal pardon or commutation system, this guy is not eligible. He committed flat-out fraud. There was no question about his guilt.”
“At the end of the day, he shows no remorse, no acceptance of responsibility. There is no reason to give him a break on his sentence,” continued Conway. “And he’s not even liked by Republicans! Nobody liked this guy! Even Trump, I don’t think, really liked the guy. There is something about — I guess Trump finds appealing — a fraudster. Maybe it’s some kind of kinship thing?”
Santos was sentenced in April to 87 months in prison after he was convicted of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. Prosecutors said he deceived campaign donors, stole the identities of others — including family members — to funnel money into his 2022 congressional campaign, and fabricated major parts of his personal and professional background to gain political support.
