Hakeem Jeffries Slams Elise Stefanik as ‘Handmaiden’ for Trump After She Announces NY Governor Bid
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) came out swinging against Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) on Friday, calling her a “handmaiden for Donald Trump’s extreme policies” just hours after she announced her bid for governor of New York.
During a lengthy appearance on MSNBC’s Ana Cabrera Reports on Friday, Jeffries was quizzed by host Ana Cabrera about Stefanik’s hours-old gubernatorial campaign.
What followed was a tirade by Jeffries, who called Stefanik “nothing more than a handmaiden for Donald Trump’s extreme policies.”
He added: “She’s a sycophant who has been a repeated rubber stamp for Donald Trump’s extreme agenda.”

REP. HAKEEM JEFFRIES: You know, Elise Stefanik is nothing more than a handmaiden for Donald Trump’s extreme policies. She’s a sycophant who has been a repeated rubber stamp for Donald Trump’s extreme agenda that is doing nothing but hurting the people of New York and everyday Americans across the country. If Elise Stefanik really wants to do something about the high cost of living, she should tell her boss, Donald Trump, to end these reckless tariffs, which are increasing costs by thousands of dollars per year on New York families and on families across America.
Stefanik announced her campaign for governor in a social media post that began with the declaration that current governor, Kathy Hochul (D), is the “Worst Governor in America.”
Before facing off against Stefanik, Hochul will first have to stave off a primary challenge from her own lieutenant governor, Antonio Delgado.
Last month, a poll found Stefanik leads Hochul by one point (43%-42%) among registered voters. The same poll found that Stefanik would beat Delgado by six points (43%-37%).
