Here’s That Michael Jackson Hologram Performance You’ve Been Waiting For

Look, we know the Billboard Music Awards are generally considered the awkward step-cousin of the Grammys, but tonight’s iteration of the ceremony came with the promise of a Michael Jackson hologram. So people paid attention.

Yes, the whole deceased-legends-reincarnated-as-a-3D-laser shtick is getting old — 2pac and Elvis Presley have already been there, done that — but MJ’s label just released a new album of material (Xscape), so the hype was high.

Sadly, of course, the hologram situation was fraught with legal troubles. But digital Michael Jackson performed his “new” track, “Slave to the Rhythm,” anyway. It is sure to divide audiences.
