House Democrat Tells MNSBC JD Vance Used ‘Same Language’ Hitler Did to ‘Justify The Holocaust’ During Munich Speech
Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) accused Vice President JD Vance of echoing Nazi rhetoric when he address the country’s European allies at last week’s security conference in Munich.
The Massachusetts Democrat claimed during an interview with MSNBC’s Ali Vitali that Vance’s words were similar to those Hitler used to justify killing millions of Jews.
While addressing European leaders last Friday, Vance blasted what he categorized as guardrails on speech on the continent
“The threat that I worry the most about vis a vis Europe is not Russia, it’s not China, it’s not any other external actor,” Vance said. “What I worry about is the threat from within, the retreat of Europe from some of its most fundamental values, values shared with the United States of America.”
Moulton told Vitali Monday that the comments equally stunned Americans and Europeans who were in Munich for the conference.
“Well, let me just talk about the mood in the room for that speech,” he said. “It was one of absolute shock, absolute shock among our European allies, among basically everyone in the audience.” Moulton added:
I think many of us Americans just felt totally embarrassed as VP Vance delivered really not a speech but a condescending lecture about the fundamental tenets of democracy to our European allies, and what was most remarkable is just how hypocritical this speech was.
Moulton said later in the interview that he spoke to a Republican advisor about the speech, and likened Vance’s remarks to those made by Nazis before they took control of Germany in the 1930s:
What’s most dangerous about this is what one Republican adviser told me after the speech was that – you know – a lot of us were talking about how it was embarrassing, how it was out of touch, how it was selling out the Ukrainians but he said to me, Seth, if you listen, listen carefully it’s actually much deeper and darker. He was talking about the enemy within. This is some of the same language that Hitler used to justify the Holocaust.
Moulton also blasted Vance for meeting with leaders of Germany’s far-right AfD party after his remarks.
“Just after the speech, Vice President Vance went to the old Nazi Party headquarters in Munich to meet with the leader of the modern-day Neo-Nazi party in Germany,” Moulton said.
