Houston Astros Game Draws a 0.0 Nielsen Rating

Poor Astros.

An Astros/Angels game at Minute Maid Park last week drew a perfect 0.0 in the Nielsen Company’s ratings and demo. This doesn’t mean nobody watched the game broadcast on Comcast SportsNet Houston (which reaches a half-million omnidirectional boob-tubers), simply that none of the almost 600 Nielsen boxes engaged during those hours were tuned to the 9-1 loss.

This is only the second time an Astros game has not even registered on Nielsen’s scale. The last could be blamed on a competing Houston Texans football match. This go around? Well, the Astros did have the second-worst season in Major League history in 2013, so that might have something to do with it.

And yet: last year’s franchise was one of the most profitable in league history. Why? Largely because of its $65 million television deal with Comcast SportsNet.
