Jake Tapper Tells Piers Morgan Biden Cognitive Decline Cover-Up ‘May Be Worse’ Than Watergate
CNN anchor Jake Tapper criticized the Biden White House’s reported concealment of the president’s cognitive decline as “maybe even worse than Watergate” – one of the darkest chapters in American political history.
Tapper, who co-authored the new campaign tell-all Original Sin with Axios reporter Alex Thompson, examines the inner workings of the Biden administration and details the alleged “cover-up” of President Joe Biden’s health issues.
During an interview with Piers Morgan on Monday’s Piers Morgan Uncensored, the host pressed Tapper on whether the book had gone soft on Biden’s aides.
“This brings me to your conclusion,” Morgan said, before reading from the book: “‘Joe Biden is not Richard Nixon, and the hiding and cover up of his deterioration is not Watergate.’ I am not entirely sure I agree, Jake with that conclusion.”
Tapper replied: “The next line is, ‘It is an entirely separate scandal’. It is a scandal. It is without question, and maybe even worse than Watergate in some ways. Because Richard Nixon was in control of his faculties when he was not drinking… We don’t mean to exonerate.”
Morgan agreed, saying: “I think, arguably, it is worse actually.”
Tapper and Thompson conducted more than 200 interviews for the book, which details an orchestrated effort by a small coterie – including Jill Biden, Hunter Biden, and longtime aides Mike Donilon, Steve Ricchetti, and Bruce Reed – to keep the president insulated from scrutiny.
According to one source quoted in the book: “Five people were running the country, and Joe Biden was at best a senior member of the board.”
Tapper went on to acknowledge past failures in his coverage: “Knowing what I know now, obviously I feel tremendous humility.” He added that the media must engage in “soul-searching” over its role in not asking questions, adding: “Conservative media was correct.”
