JD Vance Gets Laughs From MAGA Crowd by Joking About Trump’s Airstrikes in the Caribbean

Speaking at a rally in Michigan on Wednesday, Vice President JD Vance boasted about President Donald Trump authorizing airstrikes on boats that the administration says were trafficking drugs.

The crack drew laughs from the crowd.

Trump has ordered strikes on at least two Venezuelan vessels in the Caribbean that he says were carrying “narcoterrorists.” In each case, the president posted video of the explosions on his Truth Social account.

Vance and other administration officials have dismissed concerns about the legality of such bombings in international waters. The vice president told the crowd that he is “proud” of Trump’s actions and said he recently spoke with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth about the strikes.

“He said, ‘You know what, Mr. Vice President, we don’t see any of these drug boats coming into our country. They’ve stopped.’ And I said, ‘I know why. I would stop too. Hell, I wouldn’t go fishing right now in that area of the world.’ But that is what a military that is dedicated to its purpose and a commander-in-chief that is dedicated to the national good can do. If we just have our actual government fighting for the interests of Americans and nobody else, we can make this country safer, we can protect your jobs, we can make sure you’ve got the best wages anywhere in the world, and we can stop this terrible poison from coming into our country.”

This month, Hegseth was asked which authority the administration used to justify the boat bombings.

“We have the absolute authority and complete authority to conduct that,” the secretary replied. “First of all, just the defense of the American people alone. A hundred thousand Americans were killed each year under the previous administration because of an open border and open drug traffic flow
